Division of Community Services Announcement: 09/01/2020

FALL 2020 Semester:  Two (2) Navajo Technical University college classes are offered in Alamo.  SSC100 College Success Skills for 1 credit hour and ADM113 Office Procedures for 3 credit hours.  These are online classes using the MOODLE navigation tool to keep track of assignments, grades, etc.  The classes are requirements for the, "Administrative Office Specialist Program of Study."  Two (2) Alamo community youth are enrolled in these classes.  

If you are a new student and interested in attending Navajo Technical University (NTU) in the Spring 2021 semester, you need to act now and apply for college admissions.  You need to apply online and send in your official CIB, transcripts, and other such documents.  Spring Semester 2021 pre-registration begins October 26 and Instruction begins January 19, 2021.  The Division of Community Services offers the college entrance exam, ACCUPLACER to help identify what general education requirement courses you need.  ADM101 Keyboarding & Formatting I and SSC100 College Success Skills class will be offered in the Spring.  If you are a new student, you need to act now and apply for Admissions, Don't wait until the Last Minute.  It takes time to apply to the college before you register for classes.  For returning students, you need to keep in mind the number of semesters you've been away from NTU, after one semester, you will need to re-enroll.

Division of Community Services Announcement: 09/01/2020


 The Division of Community Services is seeking a part-time/temporary employment for an Adult Education Instructor.  The Instructor will assist adult learners seeking their high school diploma with assistance and guidance as they enroll in WNMU's online English Language, and Math classes.  Students may need assistance with online admission and getting started with online classes.  In addition, the Instructor will assist in being accountable for monitoring student progress, collecting completed assignments, determine academic hours from Essential Education and tracking performance over a period of time.   This is on a consultant basis.   Call Marlene Herrera, Community Services Director at (575) 854-2609 ext. 1403 for further information.

Sep 01, 2020 – Sep 30, 2020: Division of Community Services

1.  Navajo Nation Census takers will be in Alamo at the Division of Community Services on September 8th and 9th and September 22nd and 23rd.  They will set-up canopies in the parking lot and will be assisting community members complete their Census.  Please come and get counted for the Census, the Alamo community needs a true count.  You will need to practice safety and wear your face mask at all times, practice social distancing, and hand sanitizers will be available for your use.

2.  The Division of Community Services has partnered with Western New Mexico University (WNMU).  WNMU is offering ONLINE adult education classes in English and Math.  One independent English class will be offered for those studying for their high school diploma.  Take advantage of this opportunity, this is a good resource for you in addition to Essential Education.  You need to register online at Complete the online application and submit.  They will work with you independently.

3. WNMU is offering Digital Literacy Certification.  This is an ONLINE certification program.  Certification is in such areas as Windows 10, Internet, Email, MSWord, Excel, Powerpoint, Employment Searching, and much more.  The link to Digital Literacy is:  All WIOA participants are encouraged to enroll in the Digital Literacy Program.  Upon receipt of your certification, you will earn an incentive to your stipend.
